The Songs in My Head-- Careless Whisper

Pretty sure I woke up with this song in my head because I'd heard it on the radio this week. Blast from my past, from middle school, haha. Here's the song running through my head when I woke up this morning.....

"Careless Whisper"

I Feel So Unsure
As I take your hand
And lead you to the dance floor
As the music dies
Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
And all it's sad goodbyes

[Chorus:]
I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste a chance that I've been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

Time can never mend
The careless whisper of a good friend
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you'll find

[Chorus]

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We'd hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But now who's gonna dance with me
Please stay

[Chorus]

Now that you've gone
Now that you've gone
Now that you've gone
Was what I did so wrong
So wrong that you had to leave me alone

a song about honesty, cheating, lying, making mistakes, careless words....
it's a kind of a lament, a song of regret

It just reminds me that we all screw up sometimes and mess up big things and small things. In the song a potential true love is messed up. All that to say, it's worth it to think twice before saying and doing careless things or doing things just because they feel good.

Sometimes it feels good to just say that thing you shouldn't say or eat that thing you shouldn't eat. Sometimes it's a pretty serious mistake and you risk a relationship, your career, or your life. It's worth it to slow down and not just do things because you know it would make you feel better to say or do that thing in the moment.

Lots of times it's better to hold your tongue, choose to be nice, and let it go. Just choose to forgive and not let it bother you. Just let the temptation slide. Turn around and walk away if you have to. In the song, a man lost his love. It is fiction.

In our lives, we know that careless words can hurt others and careless actions can affect our lives in countless ways. All I'm saying is slow down and go ahead and enjoy the song, but keep picking yourself up each day and make some choices to stay on the high ground.

I'm kind of talking to myself here, too.....
Be nice
Listen and not talk
Get up and do the things you need to do
Make a habit of doing the good things
Stop when you're full
Call your mom
Send that card
Turn off the the TV
Hug that child
Take a deep breath
Enjoy the sunshine
Find good things to say to people
Be patient with others
Take 5 minutes to do some things you want to do
Admit that you made a mistake
Forgive yourself
Don't say every word that pops in your head

James 1:19New American Standard Bible (NASB)

19 [a]This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear,slow to speak and slow to anger;

Ephesians 4:29-32New International Version (NIV)

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
